Christ’s (UCC) designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

First Church of Christ Congregational Church in Simsbury voted to become an ONA congregation occurred on October 28, 2012.  The vote went through with 261 to 14.  This was a 95% approval rate from our church.

Since this vote, the ONA committee has led a variety of initiatives. We sponsored multiple events to stimulate conversation amongst our congregation.  This included movie nights presenting “For the Bible Tells Me So” and “They call me Malcolm”.  After which, we had a stimulating discussion led by clinical psychologist, Dr. Matthew Malouf.  We coordinated Sunday sermons with a mix of personal testimonials, questions and answer opportunities, and messages related to the ONA initiative.   We have participated in the True Colors event at the UConn campus in Storrs.

Last year, ONA proudly participated in Simsbury Celebrates.  Again this year, we are here to welcome any questions and ideas from our community.

Every week, our sermons begin with this message:

“No matter who you are, no matter where you are on life’s journey, you’re welcome here!”

Our ONA status is a resounding example of that message.First Church of Christ Simsbury welcomes any & all who are seeking a supportive & loving church environment.
