Chancel Choir

meets Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm in the Music Room

This is the largest and longest-lived singing group of our music ministry. Called upon for providing choral music for most regular services, special services, and the presentation of at least one major work a year, the members of this group also provide many soloists and small groups throughout the year. The group presents music of many different styles, from Medieval and Baroque to early American and Contemporary. (High school age and up)

The Chancel Choir provides service music and anthems for Sunday worship on a regular basis. We also prepare a “sermon in song” on several occasions throughout the year, when we offer a major work that is done in place of a spoken sermon. Thirty-five members strong, this long-standing group has presented many choral works by significant composers, as well as many different styles of music: gospel, folk, and contemporary musical pieces.  We join with other Farmington Valley churches regularly for combined presentations, such as Simsbury’s annual Interfaith Thanksgiving service. On Christmas Eve we present, along with our other choirs, soloists and Chancel Orchestra, our Service of Lessons and Carols, one of the highlights of the year. We are always eager to welcome new members to come and experience what we know: the thrill and the joy of music, of singing in a large group and being able to “raise the rafters” by praising God through song.
