Community Farm Update:
Community Farm Summer Youth Intern
First Church was able to provide funds through our mission budget to sponsor a part time intern for the Community Farm of Simsbury.. Mark, a 20 year old from Hartford, has been interning for 2 weeks. Mark says the work is “fun but hard” and this is his first experience on a farm. He also remarked that he didn’t realize how much was involved in growing organic food; “you have to sustain it like a child…raise it up.” We are grateful for Mark’s hard work, and wish him best of luck at Capital Community College where he plans to study digital media. We also send well wishes and prayers for Farmer Jenn, who has left the farm for health reasons, and welcome Tim Goodwin back to the farm as interim head farmer.
More Help Needed for Harvesting at the Community Farm !!
The organic vegetable crops at the Community Farm on are ready for harvest! The farm supplies thousands of pounds of produce to agencies including Gifts of Love, Granby Community Kitchen, Hartford Billings Forge, Hartford Food System, and Hartford Public Schools. Several First Church volunteers have been working throughout the summer to care for the crops and support the farm.
